How to get ready for GTA 6: a checklist

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026. Take care of these steps ahead of time, and on launch day you can just start playing.

Step 1. Check your platform
At launch, the game comes out only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There are no PS4 or Xbox One versions, and no date has been announced for PC. More in our article on GTA 6 platforms.

Step 2. Free up storage space
Rockstar hasn’t announced the install size yet. Big games from this console generation take up more than 100 GB, so it’s best to make room in advance. That’s our editorial estimate, not official data.

Step 3. Sort out an online subscription
Online play on consoles usually requires a subscription: PlayStation Plus on PS5 and Game Pass on Xbox (the base tier is enough). Rockstar hasn’t announced GTA 6’s requirements for online play yet.

Step 4. Don’t buy “pre-orders” on third-party sites
Pre-orders have been open since June 25, 2026, but only in the platforms’ official stores and at partner retailers. “Keys” and “early access” on third-party sites may turn out to be scams. How to pre-order is covered in our guide to pre-ordering safely.

Step 5. Follow the official channels
Rockstar posts announcements on the game’s official website, on Rockstar Newswire and on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel. Everything else is secondhand and worth checking against the primary source.
