Will GTA 6 be on Steam and Steam Deck? What Rockstar’s past PC launches suggest

Not yet. GTA 6 comes out on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version, and a search on Steam on October 28 finds no Grand Theft Auto VI page (Steam). GamesBeat reports, citing four sources, that the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027 (is GTA 6 coming to PC).

Can you pre-order GTA 6 on Steam?

No. There is nothing to pre-order. Sites selling “GTA 6 Steam keys” are selling fakes, the same way as “free downloads” (how to download GTA 6).

How Rockstar has brought games to Steam before

• GTA V reached PC in April 2015, on Steam from the start: the store page dates it April 13, 2015.
• Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PC on November 5, 2019 in the Rockstar Games Launcher and other stores, and on Steam a month later, on December 5 (Gematsu).
• GTA V Enhanced, the current-generation PC version, came out on Steam on March 4, 2025 (Steam).

So when GTA 6 does come to PC, a Steam release is likely, but not necessarily on day one. Rockstar hasn’t said anything about stores or prices. On consoles the game costs $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate.

Will GTA 6 run on the Steam Deck?

Very unlikely to run well, even after a PC release. The Steam Deck’s graphics chip delivers 1.6 teraflops (Valve), while the PS5’s, built on the same AMD RDNA 2 design, delivers 10.3 (PlayStation Blog). GTA 6 already uses the whole PS5 to hold 1440p at 30 fps, according to Digital Foundry (our PC forecast). That’s our estimate, not a statement from Rockstar or Valve.

There’s a precedent on the online side too. Since Rockstar added BattlEye anti-cheat to GTA V in September 2024, GTA Online doesn’t run on the Steam Deck; story mode still does (GamingOnLinux).
