Nobody can tell you for certain yet. Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version, so there are no official requirements, and the tables online are guesses (fact). GamesBeat reports, citing four sources, that the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027 (is GTA 6 coming to PC). Until then the only honest yardstick is the console the game was built for.
The yardstick: GTA 6 on a base PS5
Digital Foundry studied the Extended Look, captured on a standard PS5, and found the game running at native 1440p, upscaled to 4K, at a stable 30 frames per second (Digital Foundry’s breakdown). The PS5 itself, according to Sony, has:
- an 8-core, 16-thread AMD Zen 2 processor at up to 3.5 GHz;
- an AMD RDNA 2 graphics chip with 10.3 teraflops;
- 16 GB of GDDR6 memory shared by the system and graphics;
- a fast SSD at 5.5 GB/s (PlayStation Blog).
A PC that matches a PS5 should, in theory, deliver something similar. In practice a PC port can need more, and Rockstar may add higher settings, so a PS5-level PC is the minimum for console-like quality, and even that isn’t guaranteed.
Which graphics card matches a PS5?
In 2020 Digital Foundry’s Alex Battaglia compared the PS5 with PC cards in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at matched settings. An RTX 2060 Super was about 20% slower than the PS5 and an RTX 2070 Super about 10% slower. He estimated that an RTX 2080 Super or RTX 3060 Ti would be needed to match or beat the console, and that an AMD RX 5700 XT would get within striking distance (The FPS Review). He called the result theoretical, and it comes from one game, but it’s the clearest public comparison there is.
Our forecast by graphics card
This is our estimate built on that comparison, not data from Rockstar:
- Below PS5 level: GTX 10 and 16 series cards such as the GTX 1060 and GTX 1650, the RTX 3050, RX 580 and other cards slower than an RTX 2060 Super. Expect low settings and resolution, if the minimum requirements include them at all.
- Close to PS5 level: RTX 2070 Super, RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RX 5700 XT and RX 6600 XT. Settings near the console’s are plausible, with some compromises.
- At or above PS5 level: RTX 2080 Super, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 5060 and faster cards, RX 6700 XT and faster.
Video memory matters too. Cards with 8 GB may need lower texture settings, which is why our PC requirements article treats a card with 10 GB as a sensible minimum. For 60 fps the processor is the harder part: Digital Foundry thinks 60 fps would be genuinely challenging even on PC and would likely need a high-end CPU such as a recent Ryzen X3D (fact).
Processor, memory and storage
- Processor: at least an 8-core chip of Zen 2 class or newer, like the PS5’s. For more than 30 fps, much faster.
- Memory: the PS5’s 16 GB is shared between system and graphics. On PC that’s split between RAM and video memory, so 16 GB of RAM plus a graphics card with enough of its own memory is the sensible baseline.
- Storage: both consoles use SSDs, so a hard drive is unlikely to be supported (fact). The install size isn’t known (file size).
Gaming laptops
A laptop graphics chip usually runs slower than the desktop card with the same name, and results vary with the power limit set by the laptop maker. A laptop RTX 4060 is safer to treat as one tier lower in the list above.
When will the real requirements appear?
When Rockstar announces the PC version. We’ll update this forecast and our requirements article as soon as it does.
