GTA 6 rewards time spent away from missions: Rockstar says events and jobs aren’t limited to map icons (IGN). In late August, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson played GTA 6 for journalists and YouTube creators at the studio. Here is what they saw to do in Leonida.
Seen or confirmed
- Pool, mini golf, kayaking, the zoo, scuba diving, parachuting and the gym (IGN)
- Basketball, car and dirt bike races, fishing, a shooting range, hunting and backyard wrestling (the Extended Look)
- Paragliding between skyscrapers and driving big vehicles off road (El País)
Activities that pay
Money matters more than in past GTA games, and the story sometimes waits until you raise a set amount (IGN, Famitsu). Besides robberies and stealing cars, Rob Nelson told Flow Games you can dive to shipwrecks and find valuable things underwater. TGG names hunting as another way to earn.
The gym and your body
Nelson told Famitsu that three exercises a day for three days in a row raise your stats, and each workout drains stamina. The gym builds muscle and strength, overeating adds weight, and eating also gives a big health boost (IGN). Sleep isn’t required, but without it your character looks tired and recovers more slowly (Kinda Funny). Flow Games notes that the body changes within each character’s natural build.
Animals
At the zoo or in the wild you can study animals, and each new species is checked off a list, as in Red Dead Redemption 2. Dogs can be petted, or scolded (IGN).
Getting around
Fast travel works through the Ryde Me taxi app, and you can keep talking with a passenger during the ride (IGN). Kinda Funny reports that buses serve as fast travel too and that shops keep opening hours and close at night.
What isn’t there
Rob Nelson told Flow Games there are fewer sports minigames than in GTA 5 because each one has to meet Rockstar’s quality bar. Skateboarding was considered and cut for lack of time, and the channel reports that there’s no surfing.
