Is GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2? What Rockstar, Nintendo and insiders say

GTA 6 isn’t announced for Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar sells it for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Nintendo says the decision is up to Take-Two and Rockstar. The talk of a Switch 2 port goes back to one insider, who says it won’t arrive before 2027. If you’re thinking of buying a Switch 2 to play GTA 6, don’t, at least for now.

Which platforms is GTA 6 coming to?

Two. Rockstar Support offers pre-orders for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the official site lists the same pair. There’s no PC version at launch either; GamesBeat reports one for early 2027 (our PC article). The full picture is in GTA 6 platforms.

What has Nintendo said about GTA 6?

In October, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard was asked by Variety whether GTA 6 would reach Switch 2. As Kotaku reports, she said it was a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar and that she had nothing to announce, which neither confirms nor rules out a port.

Take-Two has said it releases its games wherever there’s a meaningful audience (2026 shareholder meeting), without mentioning Switch 2. Jeremie Artwick, who worked on GTA 6 at Rockstar from 2017 to 2020, told GamesRadar+ he doesn’t think a port makes sense, since GTA fans will buy whatever console the game is on.

Where does the Switch 2 port rumor come from?

From insider Nash Weedle. On June 29, 2026, he posted that Rockstar had solved the technical problems of a Switch 2 version, hired outside porting specialists on contract, and wouldn’t release it in 2026, as Beebom reported the same day. He named no studio and no source, and neither Rockstar nor Nintendo has commented. We track it as a rumor.

Stories you see about the port, with dates, studios or performance targets, almost all trace back to that one post. However many sites repeat it, the claim has a single source.

How would GTA 6 run on Switch 2?

Nobody can say. Rockstar hasn’t shown or described a Switch 2 version, so any resolution or frame rate you read is a guess based on other games. Even on PS5 and Xbox Series X the game currently runs at 30 fps.

How to spot a real Switch 2 announcement

• It comes from Rockstar: the Newswire, the official GTA VI site or a Take-Two press release.
• It names the platform and has a store page on the Nintendo eShop with a release date.
• It describes a native version. Cloud streaming or remote play from another console is a different thing.

Until that happens, plan your purchase around the platforms that are confirmed. The question stays on our open questions list, and we’ll update this article if anything changes.
