Not a full one. Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, told Flow Games that GTA 6 won’t have a complete first-person mode, though some weapons are aimed in first person (fact in the registry). That is the closest thing to an official answer as of October 15, 2026.
It is a change from GTA 5, which added a full first-person mode when it came to PS4 and Xbox One. For players who drove and fought in first person there, it is the main camera question about the new game.
What exactly did Rockstar say?
Nelson spoke to Flow Games at the Rockstar North preview after the Extended Look; GTAVice.net summarized the visit. In his words there is no complete first-person mode, and first person appears when aiming some weapons. Russian outlets such as Playground and iXBT Games carried the same news in late August, linking it to the game’s character animations.
The PlayStation page and the Extended Look don’t mention a first-person camera either. A store listing covers only some features, so it doesn’t settle the matter on its own, but here it matches what Nelson said.
Full mode, first-person aiming and cutscenes
A full mode means you can switch the camera whenever you like and keep doing everything: walking, driving, shooting and playing missions. First-person aiming is narrower: the view changes while you aim certain weapons. A single shot from a character’s eyes in a trailer or a cutscene is narrower still and only shows that scene.
So when a video shows a moment from a character’s point of view, check which of the three it is. Our Extended Look recap lists the scenes Rockstar has shown.
What about reports of first-person footage?
In October some outlets wrote about first-person shots from leaked footage. We don’t cover leaked material, and Rockstar hasn’t changed what Nelson said. Leaked clips also can’t show what the released game lets you do, because they come from unknown builds.
Could it be added later?
Rockstar hasn’t announced any plans for that. GTA 5 got its first-person mode in a later release, but that history doesn’t promise anything for GTA 6. If Rockstar describes the camera options before November 19 or the released game turns out to differ, this answer will change.
How to check at launch
- Look in the camera settings for a first-person option outside aiming
- Check whether it works on foot, in vehicles and in missions or only while aiming
- Compare reviews that name the game version and platform
Other confirmed details about the game are in our facts registry.
