As far as Rockstar has said, nothing carries over. GTA 6 is a separate single-player game, and Rockstar hasn’t announced an online mode for it, so there’s nothing to move a GTA Online character into (fact). GTA Online itself isn’t going anywhere yet: Take-Two expects to keep supporting it.
Can you transfer GTA Online progress to GTA 6?
No transfer has been announced. Rockstar has moved progress before, but within the same game: in March 2022 players could migrate their GTA Online characters and progress once from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (Rockstar Newswire). Even that has limits: Rockstar Support says profiles can’t move between PlayStation and Xbox, or from consoles to PC (Rockstar Support). Whether a future GTA 6 online mode will take anything from GTA Online is unknown.
What happens to GTA Online
In February 2026 Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick said on an earnings call: “I have every reason to believe we’ll continue to support GTA Online” (Insider Gaming). The two games are already linked: a digital GTA 6 pre-order includes a month of GTA+, the subscription for the current GTA Online (fact).
GTA V is leaving subscription catalogs, though. It left Xbox Game Pass on April 15, 2026 (fact) and leaves PlayStation Plus on November 17, two days before GTA 6 (fact).
“GTA 6 in GTA 5” mods
Fans have been making mods that recreate Vice City or GTA 6’s look in GTA 5 for years. Rockstar’s mod guidelines from September 10, 2026 ban moving maps or characters from one Rockstar game into another and porting games to platforms where they weren’t released (fact). How Rockstar applies that to fan recreations of a game that isn’t out yet, it hasn’t said. Treat downloads promising “GTA 6 for GTA 5” with the same care as any other GTA 6 download (how to download GTA 6).
