Rockstar has confirmed that the GTA 6 gameplay clips that spread online in August 2026 were real. In a statement posted on August 26, a day before the Extended Look, the studio said the leak had been heartbreaking for the team.
What leaked
About 15 short gameplay clips appeared roughly a week before the statement. Kotaku attributes them to a leaker known as Cyberleek. We don’t publish or describe leaked footage.
What Rockstar said
The statement says the leak was “not how we intended for you to see the game.” Rockstar apologized for how long everything has taken, from finishing the game, which it says is nearly done, to sharing official gameplay. It asked fans to wait for the Extended Look on August 27 and for the release on November 19, and thanked them for their messages of support.
What happened next
The Extended Look premiered on Netflix the next day as planned and drew 31.1 million views there in four days (the numbers). The November 19 release date didn’t change.
Not the first leak
In September 2022, early development footage leaked after a network intrusion, and Rockstar confirmed that too (the timeline).
