GTA 6 got a Saturday Night Live sketch before it even came out. In the October 3 episode, Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che welcomed live-action versions of Jason Duval, played by Marcello Hernández, and Link from The Legend of Zelda, played by Mikey Day.
For about six minutes the two November releases argued about whose game is better. Jason waved a rocket launcher around and talked about stealing cars; Link defended puzzles and insisted his tunic is not a dress. Jost opened by saying people call the pair the Barbenheimer of video games.
Gaming fans were mostly unimpressed, IGN reports. Jason’s costume came down to a tropical shirt and a bloody bandage, while Link’s matched the remake closely. Many wrote that the jokes were the ones gamers have heard for 20 years.
The pairing comes from the calendar. Most big games moved out of November to avoid GTA 6, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2, out November 5, is the largest one that stayed. GTA 6 follows on November 19.
