No official number exists yet. Rockstar and Take-Two haven’t said how many people pre-ordered GTA 6. Everything below is either an estimate by a research firm or a statement without figures.
Sensor Tower’s estimate
The research firm Sensor Tower estimated about 6.45 million pre-orders worth $630 million by October 20, 2026, according to Insider Gaming (fact):
- PS5: 4.8 million pre-orders and $468 million, about 74%;
- Xbox Series X|S: 1.66 million and $162 million.
In August the same firm counted 4.38 million pre-orders and $429 million, so about two million came in over two months (GameSpot). These are estimates from digital store data, not sales reported by Rockstar.
Update, October 27: Sensor Tower’s weekly tracker added 470,000 pre-orders for the week starting October 20, for about 6.92 million in total, still 74% on PlayStation (GTAVice.net).
A different measure from Circana, published October 28: 29% of US console and PC gamers plan to buy GTA 6, the highest purchase intent the firm has ever recorded (Circana). That is a survey of intentions, not a count of sales.
What Xbox and Take-Two said
On September 24 Matthew Ball, Xbox’s chief strategy officer, wrote that GTA 6 is breaking Xbox’s pre-order records and that its share matches Xbox’s share of the console market. He gave no numbers (Xbox on pre-orders). Take-Two calls the pre-orders unprecedented, also without a figure.
The only official figure linked to GTA 6 is Take-Two’s outlook. The company expects $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings in the fiscal year from April 2026 to March 2027, a record it attributes to GTA 6 (Take-Two’s forecast).
When official numbers may appear
Take-Two reports its July to September quarter on November 9, after the US market closes, ten days before launch (fact). If it shares pre-order figures, they’ll be on that call, and we’ll add them here. First-week sales would come later, after November 19.
For scale
The Extended Look drew 31.1 million views on Netflix, and UK console sales rose after it aired (GTA 6 hype in numbers). What the game cost to make is covered in GTA 6’s budget and development time.
