Will Trevor, Tommy Vercetti, CJ or Los Santos be in GTA 6?

As far as anything official goes, no. Rockstar hasn’t announced the return of any earlier protagonist, and GTA 6 takes place in a single state, Leonida, with Vice City as its main city. The cast Rockstar has introduced is new. Earlier games do get references, and one other GTA city is mentioned by name.

Who is in GTA 6

Rockstar has presented two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and supporting characters such as Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder (GTA 6 characters). None of them comes from an earlier game.

Trevor, Michael and Franklin

No announcement for any of the GTA V trio. In January 2025 Steven Ogg, who played Trevor, told ScreenRant that as far as he knew Trevor wasn’t returning. He joked that it would be fun if Trevor appeared only to be killed at the start, the way Trevor killed GTA IV’s Johnny Klebitz at the beginning of GTA V (TechRadar). That scene shows Rockstar has brought old characters back before.

Tommy Vercetti

Tommy ran Vice City in 1986. GTA 6 is set in the present day, and Rockstar says so itself: “We’re a long way from the ’80s,” its site says of Vice City (Rockstar). No Tommy has been announced. Some places from his game are back, including the Ocean View hotel, his first safehouse, and the Vintage Vice City pack has a tropical weapon finish that looks a lot like his Hawaiian shirt (Vice City 2002 vs 2026).

CJ, Los Santos and San Andreas

GTA 6’s map is the state of Leonida, a version of Florida, and Rockstar hasn’t mentioned San Andreas or Los Santos in any material about the game (the map of Leonida). There’s no word on CJ either. Whether other big cities exist besides Vice City is still an open question; what Rockstar left out of Leonida is in what isn’t on the GTA 6 map.

The one city that is mentioned: Liberty City

Lucia’s official profile says she wants the good life her mother has dreamed of “since their days in Liberty City” (Rockstar). So Liberty City, the setting of GTA IV, exists in GTA 6’s world, at least in Lucia’s past. Rockstar hasn’t said whether you can go there.
